NICK WAPLINGTON & ALEXANDER MCQUEEN: Work in Progress - TATE BRITAIN

As much about Art as it is about Fashion.

Nick Walpington's photos are a rare "behind the scenes" documentary showing the process behind McQueen's 2009 A/W 'Horn of Plenty!' collection, from its inception and first fittings to the grand finale in Paris six months later.

With 'Horn of Plenty' McQueen was making a statement about our planet - the finite resources that we have and the impossibility of sustaining rampant consumerism and economic growth.

Amongst the fabulous photos of the work in the studio and atelier are Walpington's detailed images of the detritus of humanity from various landfills and recycling plants echoing McQueen's message about the age that we live in.

I love the way this exhibition really shows how very hands on Lee was as a designer and the more candid moments caught of him and his team during moments of downtime.  As you're walking around the exhibition the fact that McQueen was dead less than a year after the show is hanging heavy in the air.

What an incredible talent.
